If you use qat it can make you:

11 Feel a false sense of confidence
11 Become paranoid and scared
11 Feel as though you have more energy
1 Feel as though you don’t need to eat
11 Feel as though you can do anything
1 Feel as though you are in control
1 Feel more talkative

Qat is a stimulant drug, a bit like amphetamine, just not as strong.

Some users do nothing but chew Qat. It can become the focus of their life. This can lead to problems especially with relationships, work and life in general.

11111111 Qat is a plant, a shrub to be exact, that is traditionally grown in countries such as Somalia and the Yemen.

The new shoots and leaves are chewed for a few hours to get the desired effects. Because of the way it is used it is not that popular outside of the cultures that have used it for a long time.

Qat is a psychologically addictive drug.

It is legal in the UK.

Qat is used in some cultures that do not use alcohol. It is used in a social way (a bit like going to the pub) by groups of people (usually men) who sit and chew it together.
Qat gives very similar effects to amphetamine sulphate (speed) just not as powerful. The effects last longer but are not as intense.

Qat is not as powerful as amphetamine but the after effects are very much the same. The user feels exhausted, really sad, irritable, twitchy and depressed.

After the drug has worn off you can still feel paranoid and scared.
